First timer tips

Are you new to Datafest Ottawa and innovation challenges generally? If so, that’s awesome, thanks for joining!!

Here are some helpful things to know about this upcoming community event:

What is the best way for me to contribute to the event?

Partnering to Hack Homelessness will thrive with the full engagement and inclusion of a broad range of skills and perspectives in our community. Be prepared to bring your creativity, enthusiasm and collaborative energy!

What should I wear to the event?

Wear anything that is comfortable for you to work in for the day. Casual attire will be the norm, but if you prefer a suit and tie, rock it!

Will there be fuel for the day?

YES! We will provide lunch, lots of coffee and other beverages to fuel your creativity throughout the day. Halal, gluten-free and vegetarian options will all be on the menu.

I’m shy, and I don’t really know what to expect. HELP!

We want each and every participant to feel excited and included in the lead-up as well as the event itself. If you’re interested but unsure of how you might contribute, we encourage you to reach out! Please email Louisa or Lisa at datafestottawa@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you!

What should I bring other than comfortable clothes and my enthusiasm?

This event is BYOT (bring-your-own-technology). We ask that every participant please bring something that you can use to access the internet/take notes/create cool things online.

**We want to ensure that NO potential participant be left out because they don’t have access to a laptop or tablet. We will have one or two devices on-hand in the chance that some participants don’t have access.
